Camera Placement Basics
Coverage is everything. This guide helps you plan camera locations that actually capture usable footage.
Prioritize entrances and pathways
Most incidents happen at entry points. Start with front door, driveway, and main walkways.
- Front door/porch
- Driveway
- Side gates or alleys
- Back door
Height and angle matter
Mount too low and it’s easy to tamper. Too high and you lose facial detail. Aim for practical angles.
- Avoid pointing directly at bright lights
- Cover the approach, not just the doorway
- Consider a dedicated face-level camera at entry
Wired vs Wi‑Fi cameras
Wired (PoE) is most reliable. Wi‑Fi can work well when signal is strong and power is available.
- PoE for reliability and fewer issues
- Wi‑Fi for easier placement (with strong signal)
- Mix is often best
