Planning Ethernet Drops
A simple way to plan ethernet drops so you don’t end up short on ports or running extension cables later.
Start with the rooms that matter
Focus on workstations, TV/streaming areas, printers, and any space where Wi‑Fi struggles.
- Desk/work area (2 drops if you can)
- TV/streaming area (1–2 drops)
- Printer/copier area (1 drop)
- Camera locations (if wired/PoE)
Decide where your network equipment will live
Pick a central, accessible spot for the modem/router/switch—closets can work if ventilated and power is available.
- Power outlet available
- Space for a small rack/shelf
- Easy cable routing
What helps me quote quickly
If you want a fast estimate, send photos and a rough count of drops. I’ll confirm details during a walkthrough if needed.
- Approx number of drops
- Photos of rooms + network area
- Any constraints (concrete, long runs, after-hours)
